The easiest way to find out which energy meter you have in your new home is to give your energy supplier a call to check. Alternatively, if you have a recent energy bill to hand, you can check that.
Standard meters: most common type of meter in the UK. They measure the amount of energy you use, and show it in a dial or display on the front of the meter.
Smart meters: digital meter which displays your energy usage in real time. It also digitally sends meter readings to your energy supplier, the end result being you get more accurate energy bills.
Prepayment meters: also known as 'pay-as-you-go' meters requires users to pay for energy before using it. When the meter runs out, your supply gets cut off!
